POSITION TITLE:  FACILITATOR FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED  

QUALIFICATIONS: Valid Arkansas Certification in Visually Impaired

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

JOB GOAL: Develop and implement appropriate programming for students with visual impairments.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Participate in the special education referral, evaluation and placement process for students with visual impairment/blindness.
2. Conduct Child Find activities.
3. Provide visual impairment services to students with visual impairment/blindness directly or indirectly through consultation.
4. Provide technical assistance, including consultation and collaboration with teachers and staff regarding vision loss, vision equipment and classroom modifications.
5. Consult with teachers/students to determine the most effective method of meeting the needs of students with visual impairment/blindness in the classroom.
6. Participate in Professional Development.
7. Serve as the teacher of record for students identified under the disability category of Visual Impairment (including blindness) and maintain due process/work files.
8. Assist students to meet classroom goals and requirements by providing assistance with large print/braille materials, specialized equipment and alternative methods of instruction.
9. Conduct orientation and mobility training, as needed.
10. Provide professional development for personnel involved with students with visual impairment/blindness.
11. Act as liaison between the Arkansas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired and the Pulaski County Special School District.
12. Coordinate postsecondary transition activities for students with visual impairment/ blindness.
13. Know the PCSSD Board of Education policies, Desegregation Plan, district and school guidelines and regulations and adhere to the same.
14. Other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary Range: Teacher Salary Schedule  

Length of contract: 187 days per contract year

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated according to provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Certified Personnel.
